Film has always been a passion of mine. Of course this is something I want to share with the world. Here is the script for my first feature length film Amarillo by Morning. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

“AMARILLO BY MORNING”
EXT. Cuero Texas 1875-Day
The small-town bustles with people as they go back and forth doing
their daily business.
INT. morning- A small church has been converted into a classroom.
3 rows of desks have replaced the pews, but the crucifix still hangs
behind the teacher’s desk. Two young boys are causing trouble.
MRS.MARTINEZ
OK class repeat after me. I before E except after C.
CLASS
(LOUDLY AND INUNISON)
I BEFORE E EXCEPT AFTER C
2 BOYS can be heard purposefully mispronouncing the prompt.
BOW RAINWATER & TYLER BRANDT
(IN UNISON WITH THE CLASS MOCKINGLY)
Y BEFORE 3 EXCEPT BEFORE G
The teacher slaps her pointer on the desk bringing the class to
silence.
Mrs. Martinez
Nonsense will not be tolerated! Boys see me after class.
3

The class laughs and points at the 2 troublemakers. They give each
other a look and laugh. A girl turns around and shoots a glaring look
at them and they both straighten up. Mrs. Martinez finishes her
lesson and class is dismissed. The 2 troublemakers are made to stay
behind and clean erasers.
Mrs. Martinez
Ok boys that’s enough you are dismissed.
As the 2 compatriots prepare to take off their teacher reaches out to
one of them.
Mrs. Martinez
Bow, can I talk to you for a moment.
The boy stops and rolls his eyes. Turning slowly, he walks over to
where his teacher is standing. She puts her hand under his chin and
raises his head to meet her gaze.
Mrs. Martinez
You mustn’t misbehave in class. Education will be key to your
success. Don’t you want to be a successful rancher like your father?
From a distance a young man can be seen. He overhears the
conversation and yells out.
TAUNTING BOY
(mocking)
He can’t be no raincher he’s a half breed colored injun.
Bow tries to run after the boy, who seeing the anger in his face
takes off running. The teacher grabs Bow and holds him close.

Mrs. Martinez
(struggling to keep a hold on the writhing Bow)
Listen! Listen to me!
(turning Bow around and holding him by the shoulders.)
Sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can never hurt you.
People like him will try to hurt you with words because they can
never do it another way. You mustn’t let them make you do something
you’ll regret.
Bow shakes free of his teacher’s grip and runs off after the taunting
boy, but he’s gotten away. He hears a voice calling out to him and
turns to see his two friends TYLER BRANDT and ANA MARIA. He runs over
to them, and the trio run off and play together.
EXT. late afternoon-Guadalupe River
The trio sit on a log throwing rocks in the river. Ana Marias’s
mother comes out to the river and calls her to come home. The two
friends sit a little longer still throwing rocks. Tyler hops up and
brushes the dirt off his pants.
TYLER
I better be heading home. Ma’s gonna be pissed if’n I don’t help and
get warshed up for supper.
Bow nods his head and pokes at the log he’s sitting on with a stick.
Eventually he gets up and heads home. His family lives on the
outskirts of town so he takes a scenic route to get there.
EXT.-dusk- The Rainwater barn.
As he approaches his home night has fallen and his father is talking
with an unidentified man.

HERSCHEL RAINWATER
Now sir price is the price. You can ask anyone around here; my stock
is the best in the county I wager in the world. Can’t go wrong
purchasing from here now, but like I say price is the price.
STRANGER
(shakes his head and slaps his gloves into the palm of his hand)
That price is too steep. you wouldn’t be trying to get over on me
now, would you boy?
At this point both Bow and Herschel are taken aback and are stunned
silent.
Bow
You be needing any help pa?
Herschel
Nah nah you best get on in the house now and get washed up for
supper.
INT. dusk- Rainwater residence.
Bow enters the modest house to find his mother finishing setting the
table. Various foods are set and three plates with cutlery. His
mother smiles as she notices her son.
RAVEN FEATHER RAINWATER
Well hello sir, nice of you to grace us with your presence. Will you
be joining us for supper tonight?
6
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
The young boy runs over to his mother and wraps his arms around her
waist. She leans down and caresses his head and kisses his forehead.
Raven Feather
It must have been quite an adventure for you to squeeze the maiden so
tightly. Come now, let’s wash up so we can eat.
As Bow makes his way over to a basin filled with water, his mother
finishes setting the table. Outside he hears the strange man arguing
with his father. As he looks out the window, he can see the two men
visibly upset and his father is trying to get the man to leave. The
man puts his hand on a gun. His father steps back with his hands
raised.
EXT. dusk- Rainwater barn
Herschel
Now suh no need for firearms. Wes just discussing a price.
Stranger
Like I said, price is too high. Not sure if you think too low of me
or too highly of yourself. but I won’t be had by no Negra!
Herschel
Well, suh if’n you ain’t willing well I suggest you just be on ya
way.
The stranger spits on the ground and chuckles.
Stranger
(climbing up on his horse)
7
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
This ain’t the last of this ya hear me?
(spurs his horse and rides off)
This ain’t the last.
Herschel watches the man ride away. Once the stranger is out of view,
he shakes his head and makes his way into the home.
INT. night- Rainwater residence
Bow rushes over to the table and sits. His father pulls out his chair
and sits down. Mrs. Rainwater comes up behind her husband, pulls his
head back and kisses his forehead.
Raven Feather
Any trouble?
Herschel
None I couldn’t handle.
(makes a gesture at Bow)
Or the knight in shining armor couldn’t fix.
(He laughs and takes a bite of food)
Raven Feather
(slaps his hand causing him to drop his fork)
Say grace.
(she sits and motions for Bow to bow his head. He complies)
Herschel says a prayer and the family eats. Their son is sent off to
bed and Mr. and Mrs. Rainwater adjourn to their quarters. Raven
Feather sits at a mirror combing her hair, while Herschel is
preparing for bed.

INT. Night- Bedroom
Raven Feather
I didn’t like the tone of that man’s voice when he left today.
Herschel
(laughs slightly and pulls off his boot)
Neither did I.
Raven Feather
(stops combing her hair and turns to look at Herschel)
I’m serious. Trouble like that we don’t need.
(she turns back and continues combing)
Herschel
(gets up and walks over to where Raven Feather is sitting. He puts
his hands on her shoulders and rubs gently and kisses the top of her
head)
Trouble come and trouble go. He ain’t the first buyer, come through
here wanting a cheap price. He’ll come back tomorrow looking to pay
in full. Folks round here know I sells the best cattle. He’ll be
wanting that cattle for himself.
Raven Feather
(places her hand on Herschel’s and kisses it)
I just worry. I don’t know what I’d do if we lost you.
Herschel
And you won’t.
9
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
(He spins her around to face him)
Weren’t too long ago I carried you across the threshold.
(He wraps her in his arms and lifts her into the air, she yells in
protest and fights to get away)
Don’t think I’m ready to let you go just yet.
(laughing the pair crash down onto the bed. Herschel caresses Raven
Feather face and gazes into her eyes.)
Everything be fine. He come tomorrow and pay in full. Guarantee it. I
GUARANTEE IT.
(He kisses her.)
Raven Feather is unconvinced. She has a bad feeling about the
stranger. The pair get in bed and go to sleep. In the middle of the
night something wakes Raven Feather. She can’t shake the sense of
foreboding. She goes outside. The wind is blowing, and she stands
listening to the sounds of the night. She reenters the home and looks
in on her sons who’s fast asleep. She returns to her bedroom and goes
back to sleep.
EXT. Morning-Rainwater residence.
As he leaves for the day, Bow’s mother calls out to him from the door
of their house to be careful and to have a good day. He’s out of ear
shot as she says I love you under her breath. As he walks his friends
Tyler and Ana Maria catch up with him on the way to school.
Tyler
(playfully pushes Bow in the back)
Sup man.
Bow, not feeling very playful, scoffs at Tyler and continues onward
stomping as he walked. Ana Maria jogs to catch up to him to inquire
about what’s wrong, but Tyler catches up to him first.
10
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Tyler
Hey man what’s wrong? What’s the matter with you.
Bow stops suddenly and turns to face his friend. He has tears in his
eyes from the anger and sadness. He balls up his fist and yells at
his friend.
Bow
You think you can do whatever you want! You think you can just come
and take and push and pull and nobodies never gonna do nothing about
it! Well, I’ll do something about it!
He lunges forward with his fist cocked back ready to strike. Tyler
throws his hands up to shield his face but Ana Maria steps in between
the two and wraps her arms around Bow pinning his arms to his side.
She holds him tightly her head pressed firm against his chest until
his rage subsides.
Ana Maria
You can be mad at Tyler, Bow. He’s just playing. Whatever’s the
matter, well help you.
Bow
(wrestles free from her grasp and continues walking)
Yall can’t help.
Just as he begins walking again the older brother of the boy who had
taunted Bow previously appears from behind a group students. The boy
is noticeably larger than the other children and at least a few years
older. He yells over at Bow and makes a bee line to where he and his
two friends are walking.
11
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
TAUNTERS BROTHER
I hear tell you tried to fight my brother yesterday.
(he pushes Bow’s shoulder)
Bow
(looks directly into the eyes of his aggressor)
Wouldn’t be much of a fight, more like a whoopin.
Taunter’s brother
(getting directly in Bows face)
Ain’t no Negra gonna whip anybody in my family ya hear me.
(The boy is nose to nose with Bow)
Bow
Then I guess you’ll be the first one.
Bow takes a swing at the bigger boy and knocks him backward.
Stumbling down Bow pounces onto the boy and unleashes a torrent of
punches. The only thing the boy can do is put his hands over his face
to block as many blows as he can. He doesn’t block very many. A man
with a large scar across his face hears the commotion and comes over
to break up the fight.
MAN WITH THE SCAR
(picking up Bow who is still swinging wildly)
Well, what do we have here?
(chuckles)
May haps we’s needin’ ta put you in a fightin ring. Let you go at
with some more negras, make some money off ya.
As he’s talking his companion rides up on a horse and scolds him.
12
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Stranger
We don’t have time to be playing ring around the Rosie with negras
and unwanted children. We have business to attend to.
(he circles his horse around and rides off)
Man with the scar
(tosses Bow aside)
You better keep your hands off these good people. else we’ll have to
come back and show you the business end of a rope.
(he mounts his horse, gives a wink at Bow, and rides off to meet his
compadre)
The children all gather around the two combatants. A crowd forms and
several off the classmates help the defeated foe to his feet and
assist him as he limps away. Tyler and Ana Maria help Bow to his feet
and brush the dirt off of his clothes. The trio walks towards the
schoolhouse together.
INT.Day- General store
Raven Feather is buying some goods when she spots the stranger
through the window. She watches the man talking with a man with a
large scar on his face and is oblivious to the shop keeper who is
trying to get her attention.
SHOP KEEPER
(smiling)
Mrs. Rainwater? Can you hear me?
13
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Raven Feather
(startled)
Oh yes, I’m sorry.
Shop keeper
(pushing the parcels across the countertop)
Will that be all?
Raven Feather
Yes, thank you.
Raven Feather gathers her things in a hurry and makes her way out of
the store and rushes home.
EXT. Cuero Texas
The trio of friends is leaving school and heading home, laughing, and
talking, reminiscing on the events of the day. Ana Maria tells her
friends goodbye and branches off down the path to her house.
Tyler
You reckon your Pa will let me sleep at your house tonight?
Bow
(shrugs shoulders)
I don’t see why not.
EXT. Dusk-Barn Rainwater residence.
14
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
The stranger from the previous day has returned with a man with a
large scar on his face and two other men. The men approach Herschel
as he’s putting away equipment.
Stranger
(approaching Herschel)
You ready to deal squarely with me yet boy?
Herschel
(continuing to put away the equipment)
Not sure who you’re referring to. Don’t see any boys in here. I dealt
square with ya. Square as I could. Can’t help if’n you be wanting a
sweet deal. I deal in cattle.
(stops what he’s doing and looks directly at the stranger.)
Not candy.
Stranger
(visibly upset)
You better watch your mouth boy. Wouldn’t want something bad to
happen to you.
Herschel
Too late for that.
(He braces himself for a fight)
The man with the scar on his face wraps a rope around Herschel’s neck
from behind. The stranger charges in and punches Herschel who is
fighting with everything he has. The two men aren’t enough to
overpower him, and he begins to get the upper hand until the two
other men join in the fray and they are finally able to subdue him.
They hang Herschel from the rafters in the barn and the stranger
tells one of the men to follow him. The man with the scar on his face
exits the barn and lights a cigar.
15
Beau Kabis Nguvu

INT. Rainwater residence.
Raven Feather is sweeping the floor unaware of the fate that has just
befallen her husband. The stranger and his compatriot enter the home.
She begins to speak thinking that it was Herschel entering the home,
but she begins to let out a scream when she sees that it’s not. The
stranger puts a finger up to his mouth to silence her. She bolts for
the door, but she’s caught by the stranger. The sounds of her
struggle can be heard from outside.
EXT. dusk-The road leading up to the Rainwater residence.
Tyler and Bow are walking up to the home. As they walk Bow is
distracted and talking away, however Tyler is looking off in the
distance at the barn door.
Tyler
Bow? Does your Pa usually leave his barn door open like at?
Bow stops suddenly and looks up. Seeing the barn door open he runs in
that direction. Tyler follows his lead and chases behind him. As the
boys enter the building, they see Herschel. Bow screams and runs over
to him. He tries his best to lift him up, but the lifeless body
barely moves. Tyler is stunned standing at the entrance.
Tyler
(stammering)
I…I… I’ll go get some help!
(he runs away)
Bow, not knowing what to do leaves the barn in a daze and heads over
to the house. As he enters through the door, he sees the stranger on
top of his mother. Enraged he charges, only to be grabbed up by the
man with the scar on his face.
The man with the scar
16
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Whoa now pard. Don’t think you’ll be wanting to join that party just
now.
(he throws Bow to the ground, but he gets up and charges again)
Looky here boys. We got us a fighter.
(laughing he strikes Bow across the face knocking him to the ground)
The stranger exits the house adjusting his pants and rallies his
troops.
Stranger
Alright fellas let’s load up. Get rid of this thing.
The man makes a gesture at Bow and one of the cohorts draws his
weapon. As he aims the pistol at Bow Raven Feather appears in the
doorway with a rifle. The sound of gun fire fills the air. The man
aiming his gun at Bow drops his gun then drops to the ground. Raven
Feather falls next. She’s been shot by the man with the scar.
Stranger
(to the man with the scar)
Clean this mess up!
(he dons his coat mounts his horse and rides away)
The Rainwater residence is engulfed in flames. The cattle are turned
loose into the pasture and the barn is set ablaze. Both buildings
burn through the night. The next morning Bow is found by the sheriff,
with the schoolteacher, Tyler, and several onlookers in tow.
Mrs. Martinez
(looking over Bows body)
Is he?
17
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
SHERIFF
(kicks Bows limp body)
The boy coughs back to life. Out of instinct he leaps to his feet and
runs in the direction of his home, his mother and everything he
knows. It has been replaced by smoldering rubble. Two bodies were
found in the house. One in the barn. The boy is distraught, his
screams pierce the air. He is consoled by his schoolteacher but there
is no consolation.
INT. Sheriff’s office
The schoolteacher and the sheriff discuss what is to become of the
newly orphaned boy. He sits in a corner of the office wrapped in a
blanket, soot, and ash on his face.
Mrs. Martinez
What will become of him?
Sheriff
Most likely hell be transported to the mission in San Antonio. The
sisters there will be able to take care of him. ‘Sides he needs to be
with his own people.
Mrs. Martinez
(looking at the sheriff quizzically)
His own people? Sheriff his mother is Quemado and his father a negro.
What do you mean by his people?
Sheriff
(leaning back in his chair)
All the same to me. One injuns just the same as another. Mexcans and
what not.
18
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Mrs. Martinez
(closes her eyes to hide her rage at the comment)
Well as a proud Mexican woman allow me to enlighten you. Sir, there
are vast differences in our cultures. Each one is valid and each one
deserving respect. I don’t think sending the boy away is the best
course of action. What if he were to stay here?
Sheriff
Where? Here in the jail? More than likely end up here in a few years
anyhow but now’s not the appropriate time.
Mrs. Martinez
(place her hand on the sheriff's desk and leers at him)
No. Here. In town. With me.
Sheriff
Well, I can’t rightly say that I care one way or another. If you’re
willing to take in the half breed, be my guest.
Mrs. Martinez straightens her dress and stands up tall.
Mrs. Martinez
Thank you, sheriff.
(to Bow)
Come along.
19
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
she looks at Bow who sits dazed in the corner. She walks over to him
and place an arm across his shoulders and helps him to his feet. She
guides him out of the office and takes him home with her. She helps
him into a bath to wash off the dirt and soot, and she hopes the
memory of the night before. As he sits in the tub, he cries to
himself, not sure of what the future will bring. Mrs. Martinez gets
him a fresh set of clothes and a hat from her deceased husband. As he
exits the front door of the house and dons the hat, he is now a grown
man.
EXT. Gang hideout
His gang is outside waiting and already on their horses. He adjusts
his hat and mounts his horse.
Bow
(TO ALL)
LET’S RIDE!
The gang rides off over hills and plains until they come to a town.
EXT. Topeka, Kansas-1891-day
Bow and his gang ride up to the bank. As they enter the bank, guns
drawn and bandanas covering their faces, the people inside gasp with
fear. A woman screams and a man make a break for the door. He’s
stopped short by a pistol being drawn in his face.
Bow
(aiming the gun at the man attempting escape)
Tsk tsk tsk. kind of rude to run out of the party, we just got here.
(He gestures for the man to return to his prior position with the
firearm and addresses the people in the bank)
Now good people not to worry. we are not here for your money. We’re
just here for the bank’s money. We’re not gonna hurt you.
20
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
(turning to a finely dressed gentleman)
Well maybe you.
(laughs)
Everyone else if you would kindly follow my associate here over to
the bank vault, we are gonna have a little prayer meetin.
Members of the gang herd the people into the bank vault as other
members are filling bags with money and exiting. As they pass two
women whisper and giggle to themselves. The finely dressed gentleman
is left bound and gagged outside of the vault.
Bow
(tipping his hat at the women as they pass)
Ma’am
(adjusting the gag on the man’s face)
Now you count to a hundred then you can let them folks free, huh.
Look at you, little Abraham Lincoln top hat and all.
(he pops the top of the man’s hat with his pistol causing his hat to
fall around his forehead)
(the man expresses his disagreement muffled by the gag)
You’ll have to speak up son, I can’t understand a word you’re saying.
(he takes off his hat and bows to the people in the vault as the door
is closed)
As the gang exit the bank a small boy watches them leave.
LITTLE BOY
Hey mister! Are you a gun slinger?
Bow
(mounting his horse)
Son, I don’t sling guns...I sling bullets.
21
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
(he spurs his horse and rides off)
The rest of the gang mount their horses and rides away. They make
their way back to the hideout to divide their spoils. They are in
high spirits as this is the best score they’ve made.
EXT. Gang hideout camp- evening
A fire is built, and the gang of thieves sits around swapping stories
and swigging whiskey. ELLA GRACE CAMPBELL, MICKEY ROBESON, GEORGE
ALFRED JEPSON, AND DANIEL QUILLERMAN surround the fire. Bow sits
leaning against a large boulder with his hat over his face. George
Jepson is finishing a dish for the crew to eat. Ella Grace walks over
and kicks Bows boot to wake him. He springs to life, pistol as if on
a spring pointed at the vital organs of Ms. Ella Grace. She throws
her hands up in surrender.
Ella Grace
Whoa cowboy! I just come to tell ya foods done. No need’n sendin’ me
on to see my maker.
Bow
(realizing it was Ella who roused him, stretches, and puts his gun
away)
5 more minutes
(he adjusts his hat back over his eyes and folds his arms)
Ella Grace
Suit yourself but 5 more minutes this food’ll be gone.
(she chuckles as she walks away)
I worked up quite an appetite.
22
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Bow grumbles but gets to his feet and saunters over to where the rest
of the gang is seated. Each with a heaping pile of sauce on various
forms of crockery.
Bow
What’s all this?
Daniel Quillerman
Mickey found a couple pheasants, so George cooked em up with can a
beans he had.
Mickey Robeson
Yeah man dig in. I don’t know how he does but this is good as hell.
George Alfred Jepson
Pheasant meat is already very tender, so I didn’t use much seasoning.
Daniel Quillerman
I don’t think you had much seasoning to begin with
The crew laugh, grateful for the meal but even more grateful for the
loot they just took. It’s a much bigger haul than they usually take.
They finish eating and settle down to sleep. As they settle in, they
speculate about what they’ll spend their money on. Ella Grace makes
her way over to Bow. Hat over his eyes he doesn’t notice her as she
slides her hand down the front of his pants.
Ella Grace
Room for one more in this saddle
Bow
(grabbing her hand but otherwise unmoving)
23
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Not tonight sweetheart.
She wrestles her wrist away from his grasp and frustrated she stomps
over to her own resting place. As she leaves, she scolds Bow.
Ella Grace
Most cowboys would be falling out the stirrups for a ride with me.
(with a huff she flops down on her bed roll and turns over on her
side)
Daniel
(to Ella)
Psst...pssssttt...
Ella Grace
Go to sleep Danny.
Daniel
Well, I was just saying plenty of room in this saddle.
Ella Grace
Well fill it with your hand
Daniel
(rolls onto his back and folds his hands across his stomach)
Can’t blame him ya no.
Ella Grace
24
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
(rolling over to face Daniel)
Blame who? For what?
Daniel
Bow. You can’t blame him.
Ella Grace
Go on.
Daniel
I hear, he saw his mama get her honor took when he was just a pup.
And he’s sweet on his childhood sweetheart. Can’t blame a man for
what his heart wants.
Ella Grace
(shocked by this revelation looks over at Bow)
I...I didn’t know. So, where’s his ma at now?
Daniel
Same place as the feller who took ‘er honor. Heard ol Bow found him
at a brothel down in Houston and uh.
(he makes a gesture across his neck with his thumb)
Cut scene.
A lady of the night moans with pleasure as she rocks back and forth
bent over a bed rail. A door opens, a gunshot is heard, and her
partner falls forward on top of her shot dead. She screams in terror.
Ella Grace
Jeez. And what about this “sweetheart”?
25
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Daniel
Amarilla. Reckon after this next job he’s gonna take off and go raise
up some young’uns. Leavin us high and dry.
Bow
You ain’t high nor dry Danny. Go to sleep.
Daniel
Sure thing boss
EXT. Dallas Texas- Day
A group of men ride up to the sheriff’s office. Upon entering they
are greeted by the sheriff who sits at a large desk. As the men
enter, he stands and introduces himself shaking each man’s hand as he
does so.
SHERIFF BEN H. SHIPP
Gentlemen, pleasure to make your acquaintances. When I got your
telegram, I wasn’t too sure of what to make of it. I can’t rightly
abandon my duties here.
Man with the scar on his face
Sheriff though your assistance in this matter would be greatly
appreciated, its actually one of your deputies we were interested in.
He apparently has ties with one of the outlaws in question and we
believe with his help we will be able to apprehend the culprits.
Sheriff Shipp
And which deputy might that be?
Man with the scar
26
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Fella by the name of Tyler Brandt. Apparently, he and the half-blood
were bosom buddies at an early age.
Sheriff Shipp
I believe he’s around here somewhere. Follow me, I’ll take you all to
meet him.
The sheriff heads towards the door and grabs his hat. He exits the
office and walks down the street to a saloon where Tyler is sitting
with a girl on his lap and a drink in his hand. A few other men sit
at the table with him.
Sheriff Shipp
Tyler these people would like to have a word with you.
WOMAN
(hanging from Tyler’s neck obviously drunk)
Well, he’s gonna have to have a word with me first. Isn’t that right
suga?
Tyler
(smiles and looks at the woman)
Well, we gotta see what they want first suge.
(looking at the men)
And what do you gentlemen want?
The man with the scar
We have reason to believe you may have information that can help us
find a wanted criminal. Does the name Bow Rainwater mean anything to
you?
(the man places a wanted poster on the table)
27
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Tyler
(looking at the wanted poster in disbelief)
I...I...uh...Sheriff who are these men?
Man with the scar
Sir, we have been hired by the owners of several banks across the
Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri territories to bring this criminal and
his cohorts to justice. Now as a law man you have an obligation to
assist us in this pursuit. However, we have been authorized to
incentivize you if need be.
(the man throws a bag of gold coins on the table)
Consider this a down payment. The rest to be paid upon the
apprehension of the outlaw.
Tyler looks at the money and is stunned. He pushes the woman off his
lap as she protests, he stands and pushes his way past the men, who
follow him down the street.
EXT. Street -Dallas Texas -Day
Man with the scar
(following closely behind Tyler)
Sir you would do well to listen to me. Obstruction of justice is a
crime sir. You must assist us in this most noble cause. You owe it to
your employer as well as the oath you swore to uphold.
Tyler
(stops suddenly and turns to face the man. He points his finger in
the man’s face)
That...that man was my friend. And you want me to...
28
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
The man with the scar
I WANT YOU TO DO YOUR JOB!
Just as the men are about to come to blows the sheriff steps in
between them.
Sheriff Shipp
Son, I think its best that you go with these men. Whatever your
friend did, he’ll have to answer for.
Tyler looks at the sheriff and wants to protest but he realizes what
he has to do.
INT. Sheriff’s office. NIGHT.
The group of men joined by Tyler and two other deputies are all
gathered around a table looking at a map. The man with the scar is
leading the discussion.
Man with the scar
We have reason to believe the outlaws are camped here. We received a
telegraph that they’ve recently robbed a bank in Topeka. This was a
day or so ago to they can be anywhere within this circular region. No
witnesses were able to ascertain the direction of their escape
because they were placed inside of the vault and one patron was bound
and gagged.
Tyler
Then why do you think they’re here? They could be anywhere. If you
don’t know what direction they fled what’s the idea?
29
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Man with the scar
Because of one thing. A woman.
Tyler
(somewhat taken aback)
A woman? What woman?
Man with the scar
Because of the proximity to the railway as well as the proximity to
the city of Amarillo where we believe a person of interest resides. A
person you may be familiar with Mr. Brandt. Miss Ana Maria Garcia.
Tyler
(stunned but maintaining composure)
What does she have to do with any of this? She ain’t no bank robber
she’s a schoolteacher.
Man with the scar
What she has to do with this Mr. Brandt is that she is a person of
interest. We have evidence that she has been in correspondence with
the suspect and that he has plans on traveling to see her. Seeing as
he was last seen in Kansas our next course of action will be to head
to Amarillo to wait for his arrival.
Tyler
And what about Ana?
Man with the scar
30
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
She will be held for questioning and potentially charged as an
accomplice.
Tyler
(makes a move toward the man with the scar but is held by his
associates)
She ain’t got nothing to do with it and you know it!
Man with the scar
(removes handkerchief from his breast pocket and wipes his face)
Mr. Brandt, if you can’t find the means to control yourself, I will
have you remanded to the custody of the sheriff, is that clear?
Tyler
(struggling against the men)
Fuck you. You don’t have no authority here.
Man with the scar
(slowly approaches Tyler and back hand slaps him causing Tyler to
fall to the floor)
(he removes a piece of paper from a file and places it on Tyler’s
chest and pokes him hard with his finger)
I have more authority than you know. Now get on board or get thrown
off the train. You understand me?
Tyler
(grabs the paper crumples it and throws it across the floor)
I read you loud and clear.
31
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
The man with the scar’s associates helps Tyler to his feet and help
him out of the room. The man with the scar removes a cigar from a
container in his pocket and lights it.
EXT. Rail line in the middle of nowhere. Dawn.
As the train barrels down the track the engineer sees smoke in the
distance as they round a bend, he sees a large fire burning on the
tracks. He hurriedly pulls the break lever causing the train to
screech to a halt. Riders on horseback with bandanas covering their
faces ride up to the train. As they board a man with a shotgun slowly
creeps to where they’ve boarded. As the thieves make their way
through each cabin the train is empty and dark. The man with the
shotgun shoots at the first bandit but misses. The bandit stares at
the man then hits him in the head with the butt of the gun. They
continue on but the entire train is empty. They make it to the engine
and grab the conductor.
Bow
Where is it?
Engineer
Ain’t nothing on this train fer you. They knew you’d be a comin.
As the bandits are all in the engine car, they hear movement. Men are
coming up from the rear of the train.
Ella Grace
They must have been hiding in the caboose.
An explosion of shrapnel bursts through the door and hits George in
the side. He exclaims in pain.
32
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Mickey
We gotta go!
The crew lead from the train and whistle for their horses. Windows on
the train break and rifles appear. A hail of gun fire erupts from the
train. The bandits all leap to their horses and ride away.
Ext. Campsite. Day
Bow is pacing back and forth. Daniel is attending to Georges wounds
with the assistance of Mickey. Ella Grace sits with her head in hands
shaking nervously.
Ella Grace
How did they know we would be there?
Bow
I don’t know.
Daniel
(wiping blood from his hands with a towel)
Well, I did all I can for him but he’s gonna need a doctor.
Ella Grace
(stands up with tears in her eyes)
HOW DID THEY KNOW?
(she puts her hands on her head and paces)
Mickey
(grabs Ella Grace and hugs her closely. She sobs into his chest)
33
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Come on now this ain’t helpin him none. We gotta ride him into town.
Bow
We need to split up.
Ella Grace
(jerks her head to the side to look at Bow)
WHAT? George is hurt. We need to get him to a doctor fast. And you
wanna SPLIT UP? That’s the LAST thing we need to be doing.
Daniel
He’s right.
(The entire group looks at Daniel)
They’re gonna be looking for us. They obviously got an idea were out
here so they’re gonna be looking for a group like this. Me and Mickey
can take George. Ella you and Bow need to hightail it outta here fast
as you can before they’re on our trail. Won’t be long they’ll be on
us like fleas on a hound.
Though they don’t like the idea they know Daniel is right. The crew
pauses a moment, and each ponders what the future now holds. Ella
breaks the silence.
Ella Grace
No. I’ll take George. They won’t be expecting a woman to be in a
gang.
Daniel
Gonna be hard to explain why a woman was with a man who got shot and
hit with a bunch of wood shards.
34
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Ella
I’ve got a dress in my pack. I can say we were attacked on our way
west. That George is my husband and he got hurt trying to defend me.
Mickey
(Looking at Daniel)
Makes sense. You wanna go with ‘er? You can say yous her grandpappy.
(laughs)
Daniel
Nah I think you oughta go instead. May be needing a strong hand to
help with George.
Bow
Well, whatever we’re doing we need to do it fast. I don’t know how
they knew we were coming but they aren’t gonna wait around for us to
get away. Had to have been at least 15 guns on that train, not
including the one that shot George.
Daniel
That’s right. We need to high tail it. Come on Mick help me load
George in the wagon.
Bow
I’ll help Mickey you get on your horse and ride.
Daniel
Well seeing as the band’s been dissolved ill just as soon say my
goodbyes to big George.
The entire gang helps George into the back of the wagon and says
their goodbyes. Bow and Daniel hitch two horses to the wagon and
35
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Mickey takes the reigns. Ella Grace reappears wearing a dress to a
chorus of whoops and hollers.
Daniel
Well, I’ll be. Ella Grace, I didn’t know you had it in ya.
Ella
Yes, you did.
(she shoves Daniel sideways to move him aside)
Outta the way old man.
(he chuckles and bows motioning for her to pass)
(she stands in front of him until he raises his head, and she hugs
him tight)
Ella
You take care of yourself ya hear me?
Daniel
(somewhat stunned)
Yea...yes maam
Ella releases her hold on Daniel and climbs into the wagon beside
Mickey. She looks over at Bow who’s holding the bridle of one of the
horses.
Mickey
We best be getting on our way Ms. Ella.
Ella
(laughing she shoves Mickey playfully)
Don’t be starting that shit!
36
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Mickey
(sticks his hand out for Bow to shake)
Bow
(as Bow takes his hand Mickey leans down)
Take care ya self.
Bow
Yes sir. Always.
Mickey
(snaps the reigns)
Get up there!
As they pull off Ella Grace turns to look back at Bow and Daniel.
They stand side by side as the wagon rolls off.
Daniel
Well boss looks like this is the end.
Bow
Been one hell of a ride.
Daniel
Wouldn’t wanna ride with anyone else.
(he reaches out for Bows handshakes it hard)
Where ya headed?
37
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Bow
Amarillo
Daniel
(rubs his chin)
Hmmm...reckon I can ride with you far as no man’s land. You lookin
for comp’ny?
Bow
Won’t turn it down.
The two men ride off.
INT. Sheriff Shipps office
As Tyler sits in the jail cell, the man with the scar sits in a big
swivel chair puffing a cigar. One of the man’s associates bursts
through the door with a telegram and gives it to the man with the
scar. He reads it and stands.
Man with the scar
Excellent. Prepare for our departure. Well leave as soon as
everything is ready.
(his associate nods his head and runs off)
(turning to Tyler)
Mr. Brandt. At this time, you have a choice, you can either help us
in the apprehending of this fugitive or you can be tried and hung as
his accomplice. Quite frankly sir the choice is yours.
Tyler
(rushing up to the bars)
38
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
That is bull shit! I didn’t have anything to do with it!
Man with the scar
(in a calm tone, lighting a cigar)
Well then have something to do with putting an end to it.
(he blows smoke in Tyler’s face)
Your choice.
(he turns to leave)
Tyler
Alright.
the man stops and looks over his shoulder.
Tyler
Alright, I’ll help you.
The man walks over to his other associate and whispers something to
him. The man gets up and quickly goes over to where the jailhouse
keys are hanging and unlocks the cell door. Tyler exits and follows
the men out of the office.
EXT. Behind the sheriff’s office. Night.
As the men prepare to leave Tyler walks over to where sheriff Shipp
and another deputy are standing. He talks to the sheriff in a hushed
tone.
Tyler
(quietly to the sheriff)
39
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Ain’t there something you can do? I ain’t had nothing to do with none
of them robberies I been here fer years.
Sheriff Shipp
I wished there were son but this fella’s got paperwork ta back his
claims. Your friends made some powerful enemies. Now I’m not gonna
hold his actions against you, although you shoulda know’d better’n to
get mixed up with that type of character. You go with these men and
take care of business and you’ll have a star on your chest when you
get back.
Tyler
(looking at the sheriff in the eyes, shakes his hand)
Alright. I’ll do that.
Man with scar
Ready Mr. Brandt?
Tyler
Yeah, I’m ready.
Man with the scar
Well lets away then.
(he spurs his horse and the group ride away)
The men ride hard through the night and make camp. A fire is built,
and the men cook and eat, then settle in for a brief sleep. There is
an obvious distance and dislike between Tyler and the rest of the
men. As they eat, they shoot stares at each other. As they settle in
to sleep there is an uneasy tension.

EXT. Oklahoma plains. Night
Bow and Daniel ride up a hill overlooking a small town in no man’s
land.
Daniel
Well boss looks like this is my stop.
Bow
I’ll be seein you.
Daniel
Well, you take care of yourself.
(Bow watches as he rides down the hill towards the town.
Bow
(yells out to Daniel)
You take care ya self.
(Daniel raises his hand and Bow turns and rides off)
EXT. Amarillo. Night
As Bow enters the town everything is quiet. He rides through the town
until he gets to a small house on the outskirts. He dismounts his
horse and walks over to the door. He knocks gently. A beautiful woman
opens the door.
Bow
Evening ma’am. I was just passing through and I was wondering…
41
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
The woman interrupts him with a kiss and pulls him into the small
house. They spin around and around dancing around the room ripping
away each other’s clothing until they finally land in the bedroom.
They make love and afterwards as they lay in post coital bliss, she
rubs his chest playing with the medallion around his neck.
Anna Maria
Te amo, pero no podemos seguir este camino.
Bow
I know, I love you too. But I have to do what I have to do so we can
live the life we want to live.
Anna Maria
¿La vida que nosotros deseamos, o la vida que tu deseas?
Bow
(Rolls eyes)
Nosotros
Anna Maria
(smacks his shoulder)
No seas pendejo
Bow
Look, I’m doing this for us so we can have what we need to live. We
deserve to live the life that we want to live. We deserve to have
something of our own.
Anna Maria
42
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Tenemos lo suficiente. Y aun si no tuvieramos nada, todavia
tuvieramos todo lo que necesitamos; porque tenemos uno a lo otro.
Bow
(a bit perturbed)
Look, we didn’t have the best life growing up. So, I’m gonna do what
I can to give our little one the life we didn’t have.
(rubs her belly)
Anna Maria
(pops his hand)
En serio, no puedes vivir en el pasado; caminando hacia al atras.
Bow
I’m done. The gang is disbanded, and I’m retired. I’m not living in
the past; I’m living in the future. Where we have a little plot of
land, a mule, and a plow. And you, making biscuits, pretty and
pregnant.
(he kisses her)
(She kisses his neck and nuzzles under his chin. They fall asleep in
each other’s arms.)
INT. Anna Maria’s cabin. Morning.
The door bursts open and the man with the scar on his face enters the
room accompanies by his associates and Tyler. Anna Maria screams and
the man with the scar on his face puts his finger to his lips to
silence her. She hides behind Bow who covers them both with the
blanket. The man with the scar on his face hits Bow in the stomach
with the butt of his rifle and rips the blanket away.
43
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
man with the scar
(examining the couple)
Imagine that. Modesty. From a chimera.
(motioning to his associates)
Arrest these two.
Bow
Don’t arrest her! She didn’t do nothin!
Man with the scar
Harboring a fugitive is a felony. As is aiding and abetting. She
shall face justice as shall you. Up ya get.
(he grabs Bow by the arm as the other men grab Anna Maria.)
The pair are taken to jail and placed in separate cells. The men ogle
and gawk at Anna Marias naked body. She does her best to cover
herself with the bedspread as she stands defiantly in a corner of the
cell. Bow rests his head against the wall of the cell and leans back
against it. He calls out to his woman who curses the men who have
arrested her and assures her man that she is alright. As the men
taunt from outside the cells the mayor enters the jail.
Mayor W.W. Wetsel
(observing the scene and averting his eye from the naked woman)
Can we get this woman some clothes?
Man with the scar
(seated behind a desk reading a newspaper, but does not look up
before responding)
The Spaniard nor the half breed understand the concept of Christian
decency. They’re fine in their natural state.
44
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Mayor Wetsel
Be that as it may WE do understand the concept, so I deem it
necessary to have this woman covered up.
(stepping over to the adjourning cell where Bow is sitting)
And get this man some pants.
The man with the scar looks over the paper and makes a gesture to one
of his associates. The man grunts then clumsily exits the jail.
Mayor Wetsel
I don’t know what kind of game you’re playing here but I won’t have
my town be made a mockery.
The man with the scar
(placing the paper down and standing to face the mayor)
I assure you sir, that no mockery will be made in our time here.
These two will face justice. I can promise you that.
Mayor Wetsel
See to it that they do. Away from my town. Gentlemen.
(he nods to the man with the scars associates)
Madam
(he tips his hat to Anna Maria and exits)
Amarillo jail. Night.
The town has fallen asleep. The camera pans out of the jail, down the
empty street and out to the outskirts of town. Close up of young Bow.
In the moonlight. He turns and runs away from the town but stops
short. Behind him is Anna Maria. He turns and beckons to her and the
two run off together. Bow is then startled awake. As his eyes adjust
to the light, he sees Daniel directly in front of him trying to rouse
45
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
him awake and the cell door wide open. The men posted to watch he and
Anna Maria are tied up and leaning over unconscious.
Bow
(disoriented)
Wha…what’s goin on?
Daniel
No time now to explain. We gotta get you outta here. Come on.
(he helps Bow to his feet)
The two exit the jail to find the rest of the gang and Anna Maria
already on horses. Bow smiles as he runs over and mounts the horse
behind Anna Maria.
Bow
Howd yall find me?
Mickey
Me and Daniel had planned to meet up in no mans land and he told me
about your hair brained scheme to come get yo lady friend. I knew
you’d need our help, so I got the rest of these sinners to come help
out. (he laughs)
Bow
Well, thank you. We woulda been lost without yall.
Daniel
(chuckles)
46
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
We know.
As the group rides away from town Anna Maria whispers to Bow. He
shakes his head, but her protests grow more and more fervent until
it’s obvious to the group.
Ella Grace
What are you two on about?
Bow
(shaking his head)
Anna wants to go back to get something, but I told her we can’t. It’s
only a matter of time before somebody comes and checks in on the jail
and sees we ain’t in it.
Anna Maria
I have to go back for my mother’s necklace. It’s the only thing I
have left of her.
Daniel
Darling ain’t gone be nothin left of you if’n we go back to that town
right now.
Ella Grace
Where is it? I could ride over and meet up with yall later.
Bow
I can’t let you do that. Those men on the train saw you just as well
as the rest of us. It’s out of the question.
Anna Maria
47
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
(hitting Bow and protesting fiercely)
Curses in Spanish
Bow
Ok ok ok OK! Fine but if we’re gonna do this we gotta do it fast. Dan
yall ride on ahead well catch up.
Daniel
Are you out of your mind? That’s suicide. You can’t go back there; I
won’t allow it.
Bow
Well, I ain’t got much choice right now.
(He turns the horse towards Annas house)
Daniel
(yelling after Bow)
We ain’t gonna keep savin your ass son!
Bow
(raising a hand)
Won’t have to.
The two groups go their separate ways. As Bow and Anna approach the
small cabin the sun is rising. The two enter and Anna Maria
immediately sets to gathering things. Bow stations himself at a
window looks out nervously.
Anna Maria
Ya casi termino.
48
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
Bow walks over to her and embraces her. He leans back to look at her
face. She smiles and leans into his chest. Immediately, shards of
glass explode into the room as a bullet rips through. Bow dives
forward covering Anna Maria. Outside the man with the scar and a
small contingency of his associates stand with rifles in hand.
Man with the scar
(yelling)
It seems we’ve come to our inevitable end chimera! You and the
Spaniard come out and face the lord’s judgement!
Bow
(creeping up to the window pistol in hand)
I’ll think about it.
The men unleash a volley of bullets into the house. Bow and Anna
Maria duck for cover. As they are crouched Bow sees a man creeping
past a window in the back of the house. He dispatches him with one
shot from his 6 shooter. He grabs Anna Maria and climbs out of the
window in the back of the house away from where the men are standing.
He fires from a corner of the house and hits another man. The man
with the scar instructs the remaining men, one of whom being Tyler,
to circle the house. Bow and Anna Maria make a run for a barn several
yards from the house. Bow lays down cover fire as the two run towards
the barn. The man with the scar sends one of his associates to
retrieve reinforcements. As he goes into the barn behind Bow and
Anna. The pair duck behind bales of hay. Bow pistol is out of bullets
and their trapped.
Man with the scar
Run run little rat. Run as fast as you can yet you still cannot
escape the lord’s judgement.
Bow
49
Beau Kabis Nguvu
832-492-8304
(from behind the hay)
The lord’s judgement? When are you gonna face his judgement for what
you did to my mother?
Man with the scar
(chuckles)
Your mother was a savage. Savages have no concept of decency or
purity. She was a whore for a negro. Why should I intervene when
she’s made a whore for a white man?
enraged Bow runs and tackles the man with the scar. The two scuffle
but the man with the scar pulls a knife and slashes Bow. Bleeding he
tries his best to fight the man off but eventually he succumbs to the
injury and the man with the scar taunts him as he can barely stand.
As the man goes to strike the final blow Tyler instead stabs him in
the back. The man drops the knife and turns to see Tyler, he falls to
the ground dead. He helps Bow to his feet and he and Anna Maria carry
Bow to the horses.
Tyler
Alright. You two ride north to Oregon country. I’m gonna turn these
horses lose and lead them south to Mexico.
Bow
(mounts the horse and helps Anna Maria up as well. He leans down and
grabs Tyler by the hand.)
Thank you.
Tyler
Don’t mention it. Now get outta here before they come back.
Bow and Anna Maria ride off. Tyler sets the horses the men road in
on lose and chases them south. He then goes to meet up with the rest
of the men sent for by the man with the scar. He tells them that the
fugitives have escaped and are heading south towards Mexico. The band
50
Beau Kabis Nguvu

of men give chase but only find a few saddled horses days later. Bow
and Anna maria arrive in Oregon.
